What is Medical Tourism?
Medical tourism is the practice of traveling in the US or abroad to obtain medical treatment. Travel to developed countries offers the same or better doctors, procedure approach, and facilities; and may be able to accommodate a procedure within a shorter period of time for the same price as the US. Travel to developing countries often offers lower-priced medical treatments with easy access to complex procedures. Careful research of the country culture, language, facilities, doctors, procedure approach, accommodations, sanitation standards, and legalities are important for a successful trip. Popular medical procedures are cosmetic surgeries (breast, butt, hair, face, tummy), dental, hip/knee surgeries, fertility, masectomy, psychiatry, alternative medicine, convalescent care, and even hospice services.
